Studying Electric and Electronic Engineering
Electrical and Electronic Engineers have revolutionised the way we live today. It is a fascinating field, and one which could make your time at university a challenging, enriching and rewarding experience. And studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering in UK is one of those experiences.Just as the world needs its Doctors, Nurses and Teachers, Electrical Engineering is something which we simply couldn’t do without. If you like the idea of creating electrical systems which could help millions of people on a day-to-day basis, like the systems used in phones, or computers,building chips and circuits to power toasters, ovens, planes, space programs, and even nuclear reactors. As an Electronic or Electrical Engineer you can actually lead the way in designing technologies that will shape our world.
While both the branches are concerned with the study and design of circuits, the nature of these circuits differs. Consider an air conditioner. Electrical circuits are designed to power the air conditioner and to move the fan. Electronic circuits take in user input, like when you set temperature or fan speed, and regulate the air conditioner’s functioning accordingly.
A degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from UK is advantageous.The UK is at the forefront of electrical and electronics engineering teaching, learning and research. There are about 68 universities offering study programmes in electrical and electronics engineering and its sub-disciplines. At the undergraduate level, you will get a general overview of electrical and electronics engineering. And studying in the UK is an advantage indeed.
At the postgraduate or Masters level (in UK), you could choose to specialise in any of the sub-disciplines of electrical and electronics engineering or you could club a genericelectrical and electronics engineering degree with engineering or project management specialisations. Some of the most popular and in-demand specialisations are communications engineering, electrical power systems and mechatronic engineering.
Both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, students have an option to undertake paid work placements spanning anywhere between a few weeks to one full year.
Salary and Career Prospects
Mechanical engineers are employed by transport companies (Airbus, BMW, and Jaguar), electricity and power companies (EDF, British Gas), utilities (United Utilities), IT companies (Microsoft, IBM, and Samsung), petroleum companies (Shell, BP), manufacturing (Mars, Unilever), the government and academia.

Therefore, it is possible for students to remain in the UK after finishing their studies provided they meet the prevailing visa requirements.
